I found the the following posted on (John Lavitt's) facebook:Dr. Seuss coined the word "Nerd". The term originated in the 1950 book "If I Ran the Zoo."
From the book:
"And then, just to show them, I'll sail to Ka-Troo. And bring back and IT-KUTCH, PREEP and a PROO, a NERKLE, a NERD, and a SEERSUCKER, too!"
I thought it was interesting...
Especially when compared to what we would call a 'nerd' today...
I didn't know that.
